This week new research has revealed an extraordinary amount of council buildings in England alone, contain potentially dangerous level of asbestos. A national law firm, Stephensons Solicitors LLP, carried out first-hand research and concluded that over 30,000 buildings owned by councils in England contain asbestos.
Out of 333 council organisations in England Stephenson’s sent an information request too, 253 responded confirming they own or manage at least one building where the substance is present.

Following a freedom of information request by the Observer newspaper it has been revealed that the BBC has paid £1.64m in damages after 11 previous members of staff died due to asbestos related diseases that were contracted because of their work in BBC buildings that were covered in the deadly material.

It was recommended last week for residents in Thames Street, Nottingham area to keep their doors and windows closed recently due to asbestos fears as fire service crews had tackled a fire in the region.
The blaze which originated in a garage in Bulwell just before 11:15pm on Tuesday 4th January, saw approximately 60 firefighters attend the scene.
